A day with the street children
2008-11-02 9:18:34
Lisa Andersson, treasurer of the Stödförening för Gatubarn i Manila (SFGIM) shared her experience during her trip to Kanlungan Drop-In-Center on February 9, 2008. According to her, she had the opportunity to meet both Kanlungan staff and the children. She was also accompanied by Sol Balbero, Kanlungan Administrator and Wilmar, social worker to the different areas covered by the Street Education Program wherein the staff brings services to the street children.  These include first aid, medical assistance, counselling and health education.  They went around Ma. Guerrero St. and P. Fauna St. and met some of the street familes.

Under the heat of the sun, they also reached the slum areas of San Andres Bukid and met a few children who have been reconciled to their families as well as some children who are scholars of Kanlungan.  Getting inside the filthy shanties and meeting those families is one experience that Lisa would never forget.

The day spent at kanlungan and in the streets is enough for her to realise how fortunate she is  to be living a decent life in Sweden.  With this experience, she felt the need to give her full commitment and support to SFGIM to be able to reach out to these needy children.
